This renovation transforms a classic Johannesburg mining house into a modern, light-filled living space. The kitchen is the centerpiece, with a curved island clad in warm wooden slats, creating a striking visual contrast to the clean, white cabinetry. Pendant lighting above the island adds both functionality and sophistication, while the tiled backsplash introduces subtle texture to the design.

The open-plan layout connects seamlessly to a dining area featuring a rustic wooden table and modern, minimalist chairs. A vibrant yellow couch adds a bold pop of color to the space, complementing the terracotta-tiled floors that preserve the home’s historic charm. Floor-to-ceiling windows and sheer curtains invite natural light, blending the interior with the outdoor environment. This design beautifully balances contemporary aesthetics with the timeless character of the original structure.

We pride ourselves on projects that are culturally rooted, relevant and sustainable, adding value to the communities and neighbourhoods we touch. We build across scales and we’re as comfortable executing a home renovation or an experimental urban concept, as we are developing a warehouse, shopping center or safari lodge.
