97A 3rd Avenue

Decorative Image

This renovation reimagines a classic Johannesburg mining house, blending warmth and functionality into a modern open-plan kitchen and dining area. The kitchen features custom cabinetry with light birchwood finishes, complemented by vertical slatted detailing on the curved island for added texture. White upper cabinets with glass doors maintain a sense of openness, while black pendant lights above the island introduce a bold contrast.

The dining area centers on a vintage round wooden table paired with sleek white Eames-style chairs, resting on a striking black-and-white cowhide rug that adds a layer of softness and character. Terracotta-tiled flooring pays homage to the house’s historical roots, while large steel-framed windows flood the space with natural light. The addition of indoor greenery brings life to the design, seamlessly connecting the interior to the home’s outdoor surroundings.

We wear our heart on our sleeves and design for the next generation in South Africa and across the continent. We pride ourselves on projects that are culturally rooted, relevant and sustainable, adding value to the communities and neighbourhoods we touch. We build across scales and we’re as comfortable executing a home renovation or an experimental urban concept, as we are developing a warehouse, shopping center or safari lodge.
