This renovation transforms a classic Johannesburg mining house into a modern, light-filled living space. The kitchen is the centerpiece, with a curved island clad in warm wooden slats, creating a striking visual contrast to the clean, white cabinetry. Pendant lighting above the island adds both functionality and sophistication, while the tiled backsplash introduces subtle texture to the design.
The open-plan layout connects seamlessly to a dining area featuring a rustic wooden table and modern, minimalist chairs. A vibrant yellow couch adds a bold pop of color to the space, complementing the terracotta-tiled floors that preserve the home’s historic charm. Floor-to-ceiling windows and sheer curtains invite natural light, blending the interior with the outdoor environment. This design beautifully balances contemporary aesthetics with the timeless character of the original structure.
